  1. I honestly have to say the book was better than the movie. The characters were not who I wanted them to be, except Rue, and parts of the acting was kind of off, like when Katniss rolled down that hill for like a good one or two minutes and got up like it was nothing. I was also wondering where the girl that gave Katniss the mockingjay pin was. The scene with the beasts did not go like how it was in the book when Katniss realized that these beasts were the altered forms of the tributes that were deceased. I also thought that the beasts would look a lot more like the dead contestants, not like mutated guinea pig wolves. -_-
The scenes I liked the most were the fighting scenes. I found them portrayed really well and were done like a real battle. I also liked the sound effects used during each scene with a specific setting and the little whistle tune that Rue and Katniss created to signal eachother. The suspenese was a great asset in this movie along with the beautiful choice of setting for the battle field.

  2. My expectations for The Hunger Games movie were pretty high considering the book was one of my favorite reads. So of course with hopes that high,I was bound to be disappointed in one way or another. For me, the movie was rather a bittersweet experience.
I enjoyed the movie as an individual. I appreciated the theatrics added for entertainment's sake, and I got that sometimes you have to leave out details to prevent the risk of it being to lengthy. But compared to the book, the movie didn't stand a chance. The amount of inconsistencies between the two frustrated me throughout the movie.
The first one I noticed was one of the opening scenes when Katniss got the mockingjay pin at the Hob and gave it to Prim, who then gave it back to Katniss for luck in the Hunger Games. I preferred the version in the book where Katniss's friend Madge gives it to her. I felt it added a likeness to Katniss, showing she IS able to make friends. I also want to see how they link Madge to her later, or if they decide to eliminate her from the trilogy altogether.
Another inconsistency I caught that was worth mentioning was the ending battle with Cato, how he gave up on himself, and after he fell, Katniss took him out with her arrow instantly. I preferred that over the book's version when they made Cato suffer for hours on end being attacked by the mutts before Katniss shot him. I feel it was more humane and better suited for the big screen.
And lastly, the ending scene when Katniss and Peeta return to District 12, they were all fine and dandy. But in the book, Katniss revealed her love was a lie, and Peeta was devastated. I want to know how they plan to put that together in the next movie.
All the missing parts just make me more excited for the later movies to come.

  3. The movie sucked compared to the book. I really don't know how else to say it. They left many parts out, and completely failed to capture certain elements that were crucial in the story. For example, when Peeta threw Katniss the bread I didn't see the starving, helpless, desperate girl that Suzanne Collins described. Katniss was just chilling in the rain with no apparent discomfort from what I could discern.

They made no reference to the reincarnation of the players in the muttations. Instead they had some naked mole rats crossed with dogs running around. The movie never made any mention of the relationship between Katniss and Madge. In fact they left her out completely. They also downplayed Haymitch immensely. I felt he was a much smaller and less important character in the movie than he was in the real story.

I was kind of disappointed in some of the acting in the movie as well. Katniss didn't have the same attitude. In the book she was strong, stubborn, and intimidating but in the movie she seemed more weak and unsure. I found it pretty funny how the actor in the movie looked like a complete beginner when shooting her bow. You see I'm a hunter and I know how to shoot a bow and she was definitely not doing it right. If she shot like that she couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, much less a squirrel or rabbit.

I have to say the movie was real let down for me. Maybe if I hadn't read the book already then I would have enjoyed it more, but knowing what was missing made it boring for me. I will say that the Arena landscape was well captured in the movie though. It looked how the book described it, and it reminded me of the woods in North Carolina where I used to spend so much of my time. Other than that though, blehhhhhhh.

  4. The movie, overall, was pretty decent. But if you were to compare it to the book itself, it left me disappointed. There were just so many things that I felt were missing, a lot of them being important to the story.
In the book Katniss is given the mockingjay pin from Madge, who is the mayor's daughter. In the movie, Katniss just finds it laying somewhere in the Hob. They just leave Madge out completely. I also noticed that when Katniss was supposed to say goodbye to her family before getting shipped to the Capitol, Peeta's dad was supposed to make a visit, but he never shows. Another thing that they missed was when Katniss was showcasing her skills to the gamemakers. After the first few shots at the targets, Katniss was supposed to start jumping around doing rolls and shooting her arrows. But in the movie, it only took her two shots with her bow and arrow before she shot the apple in the pig's mouth. They also forgot to mention the force field on top on the roof that night when Katniss and Peeta were talking. And the list just keeps going and going.
My expectations for the movie were set pretty high, I think. I guess it just depends on your imagination and how you see things. I personally thought that District 12 was going to seem a lot more poor, with dilapidated houses and everything. It just didn't seem as bad as I imagined. Another example would be the tracker jackers. I saw them as huge, ugly-looking bees, but they turned out looking pretty ordinary. Also, I saw Thresh as extremely muscular and tall. He didn't look so intimidating as the book described. Those are just a few of the things.
Lastly, the ending of the book seemed a lot more depressing to me. The movie made it look like everyone was fine, when it really wasn't. So the movie was fine and I enjoyed it, I just felt it could've been a bit better.

  5. I was really excited to watch the movie ,since the book was so good. It was one of the books where soon you start its very hard to stop. One of the differences I notice right away, was how Katniss got the mockingjay pin. In the movie, she got it from an old lady and then gave it to Prim. Prim then gave it to her when she became a tribute. Also , why was Cinna telling her to hide it when in the book, it was suppose to be a token. They also missed alot of details. Like there was suppose to be a force field on the roof, and Peeta's hand was suppose to bleed when Kstniss hit him after the interview. Another thing I was disapointed at was how they portrayed the deaths. Glimmer was suppose turn into this green mushy stuff after she was stung. Also Katniss was suppose to pull the arrows, from glimmers body. Peeta's leg was suppose to be super infected and also has alot of puss. They also skipped the part where Katniss recieved bread from district 11. They were wrong with Peeta's medicine too. It was suppose to be a syringe. I thought the tracker jackers would be huge bees, but they looked so normal. There were so many things that were changed and deleted. I guess i just expected more. The movie was alright , but the book was way better.

  6. I really enjoyed the movie apart from the book. To me, actually to everyone who has read the book, would think that the book was more detailed. And the movie seemed a bit rushed, because it was. And also, there were a bit mix-ups between the movie and the book. Some parts in the movie weren’t right. So, I’m going to list a couple down.

In the movie, I saw Katniss got the mocking jay pin from some old lady in a warehouse. And after, she gave it to her sister Primrose. That was wrong, cause in the book it says that she gets the mocking jay pin from Madge, to represent herself in The Hunger Games, as a tribute from District 12. So, that part was wrong.

Another part that I think they didn’t show in the movie at all, was the part in the book about the Avox girl, the one Katniss was so torn up about and feeling bad for, for not saving. I don’t think she was ever mentioned in the movie. Or so, I don’t think. I don’t remember. I remember seeing her in the movie, like, standing in the corner. But overall, there wasn’t that much story behind her in the movie, than in the book.

Also, in the movie when the Gamemakers and those other people, started the fire, to get some action going on, it showed that Katniss got burned on the front side of her thigh. When really, in the book, she actually had a big; horrible burn on the back of her calf. But, the burn was in front of her thigh.

So, those are a couple of things in the book that I didn’t or were wrong in the movie.

  7. I would have expected this movie to be on a massive scale of “EPIC”, only because the book was exactly that. A few flaws I found with the movie were many of the interesting parts of the book were either shortened or not given the same attention as it did in the book. One thing that really bothered me was the fact that Katniss found the mockingjay pin at the hob. Instead of Madge handing it to her for her district token. Another thing was they didn’t show the Avox girl after the games. Reassuring Katniss that everything was okay and that she has forgiven her. Then Peeta’s leg wasn’t even severed. In the book, it clearly states that the cut was on the back of his thigh, and so deep it went Having to read the book way before the movie was announced for its release. to his bone. I JUST REALLY WANTED TO SEE PEETA LOSE HIS LEG…

Things I did love about the movie was the suspense. It wasn’t as good as the book, but it was pretty damn close. With the mutations and all. It kept me at the edge of my seat. Don’t get me wrong. This movie was great. Its just the fact, if you read the book, you’d expect so much more. But hey, who can you blame really? Fitting a whole book into only 3 hours is pretty hard. I’m just happy they didn’t do anything stupid to the movie. Except the one scene with Rue… THEY TOTALLY MESSED THAT ONE UP! They should have made her die in the net. Not standing! Plus the fact that she took the spear to the belly and stood there WITHOUT being pinned to the ground?! Now that just pissed me off… A 12-year-old girl that small shouldn’t be able to take a spear like that. That’s just my opinion.

So over all, the movie is sincerely made for the money, not for the fans. So I will stand with the book. BECAUSE IT KICKS THE MOVIE’S BUTT ANYDAY!

  8. The three things that were not in the movie was that Katniss receive the Mocking Jay pin in a wrong way. In the movie it was an old lady that gave the mocking jay pin, but in the book the mayor’s daughter gives Katniss the pin. The other scene that was wrong is when Rue dies. In the book she dies while being trapped in the net. In the movie she gets out of the net and stands up. After Katniss dodges Marvel’s spear and its Marvel. The only thing is that is that Rue dies from the spear and falls to her death. It was really sad at that moment.

I think they changed that scene to make it more dramatic in movies. So the emotions will be mixed and heart warming. The last scene that wasn’t in the movie , but in the book was when Katniss gives the syrup to Peeta. In the movie they cut off that scene, so if someone never read the book they would be confused. So that sucks if they never read the book.

The three things that I wanted to see in the movie was when Peeta's dad gave the cookies to Katniss. It didn't even show that scene. The second thing is when Cato and Thresh battle. I really wanted to see that scene. I think it would of been more exciting and interesting. The last thing that I wanted to see in the movie is when Katniss gives syrup to Peeta. I think if they put that scene that would be awesome.

  9. I expected more from the movie. the book detailed the scenes better. their were alot of parts taken out from the book. the scene that was way off from the movie is when Rue was trapped in the net. the movie shows that Rue gets out and stands up and gets a spear in her. that was a sad part. the movie could had put more scenes that they put out unless they were in a rush to finish it

  10. Well I liked the movie and book, but the movie was kinda off with the acting and having some parts removed. It's expected to see some parts removed when having it based on a book so I saw that coming.Well there's nothing really more to say besides how I enjoyed both the movie and book.So a solid "good job" and the book "epic".

  12. I liked the book way more than the movie. I mean, the movie was nice, yes, but not as detailed as the book. This is the same problem for all book to movie transitions. I mean, can't they just make the movie like the book? They can leave out some events, but make sure that it's not important events. Although everyone may not be as pleased as they expected to be, I'm still glad that the movie was made and I was able to watch it. It was absolutely lovely to see the characters and events come to life as they did. This way, I'm not stuck wondering how Katniss looks like, or Prim, or Gale, or Peeta. It was nice to see how things looked like.
