Leave your message to Simon Sanchez High School Library

The school year is closing and there's so much things that needs to be done. There's the rush to finish all the cataloging, complete the inventory, write the library report and most importantly, part ways with my students. I think the hardest part of all the task is parting ways with my the Library Aides. You might recall me mentioning that this is my first year in this school library. It has been a very "blessed" year for me working alongside with you. It was a battle to encourage you to read Fahrenheit 451. Most of you didn't like the idea of a Dystopian society with no libraries, no books. Reading The Hunger Games was quite exciting because of the movie-tie in but you were quick to make a distinction between the book and the movie. You all have mentioned that reading the book was a better experience. I was hesitant to let you read How to Ruin My Summer Vacation but I was really surprised that I couldn't stop a lot of you from talking about the "juicy" scenes of the book (not that it's x-rated but was outrageously funny) references of what regular teens care about. I am the winner in all of the reading experiences that you had whether you disagreed in some of the ideas or enjoyed the pleasure of reading something fun. You gave me the motivation to seek for more support to let more students read interesting books. As you leave Simon Sanchez High School, remember the fun experiences you had with you friends including your teachers. Visit the library anytime, we are now a digital library (open 24/7). Drop a note when you can. I'm sure our future readers would love to hear what you have to say. To all my senior students, congratulations!

  1. I transfered in to this class for second semester, and I can say that my experience in here has been nothing but productive. This class made me start to like reading. Once I read The Hunger Games, I was instantly hooked and intrigued to read the rest of the trilogy, which I did. Also, How To Ruin a Summer Vacation was a pretty good read as well. I've also become much more computer/tech savvy because of the electronic resources provided by the library. The one thing I would improve the library on is to have a complete learning lab with updated technology, because living in this generation, students are much more adjusted to computers and using the Internet as a main resource, that it could help them further their education and learning experience even more. Thank you, Mrs. Napalan, for a great semester. You will be missed.

  2. I was transfered in this class for second semester as well. At first I was like man i think this is gonna be boring. But as time passed I began to be more busy with this class. Especially with all the blogging and reading. It really made me more productive and less lazy. I actually started to love reading books ever since I came to this class. Reading Hunger Games was very exciting and I really enjoyed reading the book. Even How To Ruin A Summer Vacation. It is not a kid's book. But a teen book. It really has the drama, relationships and plain old life. But other than that I enjoyed reading it. I also agree on Elayne's suggestion on updated technology. This generation is so caught up with technology and if the library updated it then it will be a better place for students. Other than that I really enjoyed this year. This class made me prepare for college because there is gonna be alot of reading and blogging. So thank you Mrs. Napalan. You will be missed by us and we thank you for your hard work and dedication.

  3. I transferred into this class during 2nd Semester. I honestly thought that this class was going to be a easy, walking around delivering notes type of class. I was wrong. As library aids, we actually do work and I really learned something from this class because of the books that I learned. Because of this class, I was more motivated into reading The Hunger Games and I have enjoyed reading the book and watching the movie. I even liked how I could spy the differences between the book and the movie. Also how the movie missed a couple of details. Then, 4th quarter I was very excited to read the 2nd book Catching Fire. But it wasn't assigned to be read. Another book was assigned which was How to Ruin my Summer Vacation. I thought that this book would be pointless and boring but as I was reading it, it was actually pretty interesting and great. I do like this class and thank you Mrs. Napalan for giving me a great amount of knowledge that I learned because of the books. I will continue reading more books. Thanks.

  5. I liked this class the very first day I had it. I enjoyed doing actual work as an aide (not just strolling and finding way out of class). I learned a lot about a librarian's career. It is not easy work. Perhaps their pay check should be raised, because their job is some serious business. They have to provide what is best needed under a minimal budget.

In the next year or so, I would like to see full shelves of books, new books. Libraries are supposed to be updated all the time. Right now, we have some bald spots on the shelves. I want our library to look like an actual one, not just a library you go to just to pass the time. We are also missing gadgets in our lab. I would like students to use the library as much as they could. Specially if they're ever deprived of using technologies such as a computer, printer etc.

Mrs. Napalan, it has been a fun year. I hope you continue to encourage students to read. I know for a fact that some students actually started reading because of your class. They learned that it's not so bad after all.

  6. I wasn't really looking forward to having this class, but once I heard how the class was from my classmates it turned out to be very interesting. I was afraid that I was going to be bored in the library since I knew that Ms. Vivian was the librarian, but once I heard that we have a new librarian and that she is really nice I wasn't that afraid. I didn't really like to read books or do anything that dealed with the library, but Mrs. Napalan you made it interesting. You have helped the library to look so much better and you actually cared about how the students would want to use it. You have provided us with new books and laptops as well. In my opinion, that is a huge upgrade to our school library. I liked that we had a lot of hands on assignments. Another thing is you have a great heart. Thank you for understanding me and helping me when times got hard. Especially with the incident against Ms. Vivian. I'm glad I had this class and I hope that you enjoy the next years that you have here at Simon Sanchez High School. Thank you again for a good semester (:

  7. Well Ive had this class since the 1st day of school, I have to say when we first started reading and stuff I was kinda irritated and bored, I didnt really want to read Fahrenheit 451 cauuuse I just dont like to read. But once we started reading and got towards the middle of the book it started getting better. And I had no choice to read so I did. And I dont regret it because that was a really unique and interesting book. Its so futuristic! In the end and throughout the year this class was pretty good. We read some good books that interested me, and I dont even like reading, haha. So Id like to say thank you for introducing me to some different ways of watching a movie in my head! Have a good sumnmer and I wish you the best of luck next school year!

  8. I got transferred into this class for 2nd semester, because I failed art and I thought that if I stayed in their i would fail again so I asked my friends what was an good elective to transfer to. So my friend bobby told me that I should transfer into library aid. So I asked my counselor if it was open and so she put me in their. This is actually my first class in high school that I was ever an aid. So I was pretty excited(: Well from the start I really liked this class. Ms. Sudi is a good teacher she taught us things on the mac that I never really thought you could do. She gave us an opportunity that other students from other public schools don't have so I am glad I had this experience so I hope that other students would take this class and learn from it(:

  9. Although I wasn't here the whole year,I had fun and had many learning experiences. I transferred to library aid this year from cope. I met many friends and learned how to do many new things like cataloging. At first, I really don't like reading at all. After reading Hunger Games I got really into it and read the whole trilogy. Now, I actually read whenever I have a chance to. I'm also glad I read How to Ruin a Summer Vacation. It's really interesting. I encourage the upcoming students to read that book if they ever have the chance to. I really like being a library aide. Ms.Napalan is a great teacher. She is very kind, but makes sure we always do our work. I hope the future students would be able to learn alot from this school too. Thanks for the great leatning experience Ms. Sudi.

  10. Well this experience in being a library aid, It has been a wonderful experience for me. Im really glad I changed that one class to come here. The start of the class was pretty hard because we had to catalog old books which had dust and molds which wasnt a good experience for me. But after all that it was pretty good, Because Mrs. Napaln helped me out with things . Oh and especially when she got the laptops, it made working in the library way more easier and it was some hands on work. Mrs. Napalan is a good teacher, she taught me how to catalog books, shes a good teacher that helped me out with other things on the computer which I didnt know how to use. Mrs.Napalan made the library better then all my 4 years of high school. Hopefully we meet in the future Mrs. Napalan it was a pleasure too be in your class ! :)

  11. I still remember what Mrs. Napalan first said to me before letting me join her class, "Are you willing to do the work?". A couple friends from last year had told me to take this class because they said it was easy. It wasn't. I mean, I suppose it had been easy the last couple years because it was a different librarian. Mrs. Napalan actually pushed the class to another level, literally. We did a lot of work. We did inventory the first couple weeks of school. We also got started on reading a classic, Fahrenheit 451. We had quizzes and tests. We began blogging. We also learned how to fix books on the shelves and learned how to sign out a book and sign one back in. We actually were official library aides. We cataloged and began reading more books. Overall, it was a good experience. It was nice knowing how a library truly works.

This library has taken a big leap from what it used to be: barren, old, and kinda yuck. We actually took the time of going through every single book and video the library had to offer. We got rid of the ones deemed unusable and disposable. This library needed all the help it could get. I doubt students actually found the library to be resourceful. With the work Mrs. Napalan started, the library started to have potential. We got new books. We got a couple new equipment. We had access to the internet whenever we needed it for school. We also now have an electronic library. I really hope that the library continues to improve because it is a very important place for students. It needs to be as resourceful as it can be.

Thank you, Mrs. Napalan for improving our library. It also has been a great year. Thanks for dealing with our ways towards books and our having such impatient attitudes. You taught us how to really do a job well. (Pushing us to put the books in order properly.) Thank you for the knowledge and for the experience. Haha, keep me posted on good books, please :) And, I hope you have a great summer and good luck to you!

  12. The library changed a bit since the beginning of the school year. The old shelves and tables are still there, but it looks cleaner a little. We don't have any of those old looking books from the 80's or 90's anymore. We got new more interesting books that us young adults love to read.
I had this class since the beginning of the school. It was boring at first because we did not do much. As we progressed through the school year, We started doing more things that kept us busy. We cleaned and read more. We read some good books like, Hunger Games, How to ruin your summer vacation, and fahrenheit 451. I had a bunch of good classmates. They kept the class interesting for me.
Thank you Mrs.Napalan. You did so much to help our library. You got new books for the school. Also, you got the internet and computers for the students to use for free unlike marketing where you have to pay. Have a great summer mrs. I hope i see you again.

  13. I'm extremely glad to have gotten library aide. I never knew that I would ever enjoy being a librarian, but the experience that I have had in this class has made me want to change my mind, and further look into it. It has not only helped in cataloging, but also in organization. And I am very well going to miss this class, and my classmates, and also you Mrs. Napalan. Thank you very much for a god school year. Hope to see you again in the future.

  14. Well I've been here all year long and I gotta say it was a blast. Fahrenheit 451 totally sucked, but Hunger Games was one of the best books I have ever read in my life. After I finished the first one for class I promptly read the whole series soon after. My classmates kept me laughing, as well as Mrs. Napalan all year long. We did plenty of work but still always had a good time too. I wouldn't change this class for anything. Library Aide was a great class and I will truly miss it.

  15. Well I first came to this class in 2nd semester. I thought this class would be difficult and boring but it became the complete opposite. I later found myself liking this class. I had a lot of fun the semester I had the class. Man I remember when I first saw Mrs. Napalan, I thought she would be a mean teacher but then she was actually a really cool teacher. Hahaha made a lot of funny memories in our period. Now about the things we did. The work wasn't that bad just time consuming. I loved reading The Hunger Games! I'm not really a reader but when I read that book I was hooked. I really didn't care for How To Ruin Your Summer Vacation. I don't it just seemed boring to me. I prefer action stories I guess. What I didn't like the least was cataloging. Cataloging take so much time. You have to catalog all these books and follow these steps exact or you'll mess up and have to redo everything all over again, but hey someone has to do it and that's why we're here. To help the librarian and relieve some of the stress. Overall having this class was really fun. I'm gonna miss Mrs. Napalan, she's a really cool teacher.

  16. when I first had this class I thought woah there's a new librarian. at firsT I thought she was going to be mean but she was pretty cool, but when she told us what our work was thats when things started to suck. The work we had the first day was the worst.we had to log down the old books in the library and then pack them up. As the year started to go on things got a little better. we started reading books which i normally liked, but the book we were given wasn't my favorite choice in read. so then that was kind of a drag. then second sem came and we had to read another book which was the hunger games i didn't really know anything about the book so i thought it was going to suck, but when i started to read it it was actually very interesting. i really liked the book that i just had to read the second. well 4th quater came and we had another book to read and man i thought it was going to suck cause the cover looked plane , but i guess you really can't judge a book by its cover. because the book was really really good. It had a good storyline.well anyway the library changed a lot since the since the beginning of the year now we have new up to date books. overall having this class was a great experience. well i'll miss this class and i'll miss you to miss.

  17. Well i think this class was really great learned more about books. I wouldn't mind having a class like this in collage. Writing in blog, logging in books in the library world, and much more like making poster for the library. Decorating the doors of the library. Wiping the library was what we did most but it was fun. And reading was really great to. Mrs. Napalan you should read as a group when you start next school year so that everyone could be together in the same page and everyone would understand the book more and you should have more question in your blog. And this the 1st year that we have to write in the blog but it was great. And when you give them a book to read pick the top ratting so that it won't be a junk story. You should let them pick what book the want to read. For me this class made me learned a lot of things. So i want to thank you Mrs. Napalan making this class hard and fun at the same time.

  19. Hey, Mrs. Napalan. I've been a library aide throughout my whole senior year. I must admit that at first, I would really dread coming to this class and read a book. But I grew into it. I just had to accept the responsibilities of being in this class. Now, the library looks much better, and much cleaner. And with the Mac books, it definitely helps the students get things done on time when they can't get it done at home. Out of the three books we read, I most definitely enjoyed "How to Ruin a Summer Vacation." It was very interesting from beginning to end. Cataloging was kinda fun. There were so much to do, but I got used to it. The thing I really disliked was putting the books back in its order. -.- They were scattered everywhere. It was so confusing. I've just experienced so much being in this class. And I don't think it would have been the same if you weren't here, Mrs. Sudi. You and Ms. Viv both are great people. As I move into the real world, I won't forget you ladies and the things you've taught us. Thanks for a great year. ((: And hopefully, I'll visit during summer sometime. See you later. (:

  20. I was transferred to this class from Ms. Perez the Yearbook teacher, because her class was full of students. Lots of students wanted to take her class, so I volunteered to get out. I got out of her class, because she said you would be doing lots of power points and other things on the computer and i am not really good at that stuff. Went i started library aide i as so happy that i got it, because i was gonna stroll around school with my badge and all. But i couldn't or whenever i tried to walk around I would get caught and I would get into deep crap. So I stop strolling around, because I didn't wanna get into trouble again. My classmates in Library are all fun and cool. I would say our period was the BOMB!!! We all talked and had our conversations together and would tease Mrs. sudi. Also when we had the field trip to watch the Hunger games and it was really fun. I didn't have any other field trip this year but this. But of the sad parts was when i would get in trouble from Ms viv. She would yell really loud and that sucked, because everyone could here it. Other then that I had really fun in this class. I hope you continue doing your job, making Simon Sanchez library better and teaching students to be a better person. See you around.....:p

Sudi showed us on how library is runned by a librarian.

  22. I had a free period in first semester so I decided to get this class because I wanted to be able to read some interesting books about law. I never knew we had assignments to read as well. I enjoyed myself in this class because it was never boring. I love how all of us in this period get along and have funny conversations. We were always occupied with assignments and I like that. I rather have it this way than do nothing at all like Mr. Fresse's class. I will honestly miss you Mrs. Napalan and this class. Thank you for encouraging us to be responsible and giving us a good thought about our future. You are a great teacher ! Continue all your great doings !! :)

  23. Coming into this class, I wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly, I was hoping it was going to be very similar to being an office aide, where all we had to do was walk around campus passing notes, calling students out, etc. Obviously, I was wrong. This class was nothing compared to what I expected.

It got me to do things I didn't think I would do. I read four WHOLE books, which were Fahrenheit 451 and the Hunger Games Series. Seriously, I couldn't even stand reading just one book for one school year. I never thought I'd take interest in reading anything more than twenty pages, and to read a whole book series, I really did surprise myself. Another thing that happened that kind of surprised me was getting pretty chill with the Miss Viv. The past school years, she always sort of intimidated me.

Having this class, I really learned a lot. But not just about the work we did, but also about myself. Sure, I learned what the main parts of the book are and where they're located all the way to how to catalog a book, but I also learned that you shouldn't take things for granted and that it's never a good idea to procrastinate. Here I am in the room, trying to make up this blog just so that I could get by with at least a 60%. It isn't anyone else's fault but mine, though. I was the one who put myself in this situation. I've learned that you have to own up to you mistakes. Hopefully, this was enough (:

  24. Coming to this class in second semester with Nick, I thought it would be a peace of cake. We read, fix the shelves, hang out, and just rest whenever we are done with what we were doing. Little did I know, we did more than that. We took quiz's, test, and blogs.

At first, I didn't want to be in this class anymore because I didn't expect to do this type of work. In the end, it wasn't all that bad and plus it was easy. You don't really have to think hard, just do what you're told and you'll get by in this class.

I loved how Ms/Mrs. Vivian would give us food sometimes, it was the best! We also have field trips if ever the book we are reading had a movie coming out so in this class you do more than work. You get rewarded for hard work! If you're in this class and you hate it first, give it a chance. You'll definitely wanna stay here. Good luck to you upcoming library aids!

  25. I had this this class for the very first day of school, and I thought this class will be too easy for me but it's not haha actually this is my hardest class that i had because we have to read books (which i hate the most) and do blogs but i used to it already and guess what i like read a books now XD i became more interested in reading, and i actually learned how to catalog books, use the laptops to check out books.

I just wanted to say thank you to Ms Sudi, and your a very nice teacher :) I'm glad i had u this year :)I hope you continue doing your job, making Simon Sanchez library better. I've learned a lot on this class, thanks again loveyou <3
