Posting #7

Please post  what you feel about a particular event on your readings on pages 76- 90. I would expect you to talk about a significant event in your readings and you could either tell me how it makes you feel... perhaps angry, upset, happy or mad and support your feelings but giving personal examples.

  1. Lie p.76-90

Through these pages, the book upsets me in a way because Skylar still doesn't know what to do. She's putting her dad on the guilt trip telling him that he wasn't there when her mother passed away. It just makes me mad how her dad wants to spend time with her and make things right, but all she does is push him away. Skylar wanted to run away so she can get away from all the things that are happening. She goes into her parents room and looks for her moms poetry book. Before she was able to walk out, her dad came into the room. He knew that she had the book, so then he started talking to her about it. He recited a poem that her mother loved to read to him everyday. Skylar just stood there speechless looking at her father. He was covered in dirt from head to toe. He asked her if she saw the flowers he planted. He apologized to her saying that he should've been there. Skylar was filled with so much rage she then says, "I wish it was you instead of her." Her father said he wished the same thing. He really wanted to work things out with her. It really bothers me, he's trying his best to do everything he can and she's just pushing him away. He then asks her if she wants to eat anything so he can make breakfast and they can eat together. She agrees then her father leaves the room to start cooking. Now Skylar is having second thoughts on leaving the town. So she just goes for a ride to clear her head.

  2. “ Envy by Gregg Olsen “ pg. 76-90

Once again, continuing from the last blog. An event in pages 76-90 is when the twins, Hayley and Taylor, thought that maybe Starla Larsen, Katelyn Berkley’s bestfriend, knew what was the cause of her friend’s death. So one day, they went to Starla’s house when the mom wasn’t there cause she was still in the parlor fixing peoples hair and the mom’s boyfriend who everyone knows in port gamble as a pass around. When they got to Starla’s, they found the brother mad and it was cause of the sister. He said she was being annoying and all. They went up to Starla’s room and they found her fixing her nails and all trying to look as if she’s going to the mall or something. So the twins started asking her questions about what really happen, if Katelyn had a boyfriend, who was the guy she was chatting with. At first, she didn’t want to answer the questions and she felt really anxious, but she just said it anyway since she thought to herself that she’s dead already. She said that she was chatting with this dude online who she thinks can be the right guy for her and they wanted to meet up, but they can’t cause Katelyn didn’t have any money. The twins asked what did Katelyn do afterwards and she said that Katelyn stole money from somewhere so just she could meet the guy off in the city. Then out of nowhere, Starla just stood up and kicked the girls out. Her reason was that she had a lot of things going on around her house and she need to clean up which she never did cause she never did chores.
I like this event in these pages because it showed that maybe Starla was hiding something and that she was scared that the twins might find out. It showed how she might know something or maybe be part of what happen to Katelyn in the way she was acting towards the twins.

  3. The Great Gatsby

Jay Gatsby is turning out to be a total sweetheart. In the pages I've, I learned that Daisy and Gatsby used to be lovers back in 1918 when Gatsby was in the war. Daisy was going to say goodbye to him until her parents found out about her plans. She wasn’t on speaking terms with her family for several weeks. They didn’t see each other for a long while. Daisy ended getting married to Tom Buchanan. They had a kid and settled in Chicago. Gatsby bought a mansion close to her so he could have her over one day. Gatsby seems like a shy fellow. He’s been waiting five years to meet her again. He knew that Nick was close to Daisy, so he invited him to his parties in hopes that she would walk into his mansion. She never did. When he finally met someone who knew Daisy (Jordan Baker) they began to talk about her. When Jordan told him that Nick was good friends with Tom Buchanan, he wanted to give up on Daisy. Gatsby didn’t want Daisy to go out of her way to meet him. Gatsby doesn’t want anyone to know that she wants to meet Daisy. He also doesn’t want Daisy to know that he wants to see her. The next time he saw Gatsby, he told him that he would him and Daisy over for tea. Gatsby was hesitant, but accepted his invitation. The book is turning into a love story. It’s kind of nice.

  4. The outsides

In pages 76-90, It explains what Ponyboy and Johnny did at the church as they wait for Dally. As they reached the church, they were tired, so they rest. Johnny went to the store to buy some supplies. Ponyboy waited at the church thinking about what they have done. Johnny comes back with supplies, then he suggests they they cut and bleach their hair., which is a good idea. Seeing they’re wanted for murder. As they finished cutting and bleaching their hair. They look entirely different as before. The scene I find interesting so far is when Dally shows up and takes them to a diner. Dally then explains that the Soc’s and the greasers are about to have a war, that quite interests me. Also when Johnny says that he wants to turn himself in, so that the others won’t get involved. The story so far is getting somewhat boring and at the same time interesting.

  5. Slaughter House-Five
    Pgs. 76-90

At this time of the book, things start to get extra weird. As if time travelling wasn’t already strange by itself, Billy gets taken by aliens. The aliens inject some type of fluid into him and he knocks out. Billy wakes up and fids himself back on the boxcar crossing Germany. Billy is super tired and just want to sleep, but no one in the boxcar wants Billy around him because he kicks, yells, and weeps. Also, the hobo and Roland Weary dies… This part of the book is pretty sad because Roland Weary dies. Through the beginning of the story, he’s been by Billy’s side. But before Roland died, he kept on telling stories and he kept on saying he wanted to be avenged, so he said again and again of the person who killed him. And that person was Billy Pilgrim. This part confused me a bit. I always thought that these two were best friends. But i guess I understand because it was Billy that got Roland into all this trouble.

She look like that punk crazy rocker wearing short shorts and has tattoos. She said to Beth "What are you looking at?". Beth did not hesitate and just ran out of the bathroom. Six period came and Jared had save her a seat. Beth quickly took the seat. There she took so much notes and Jared got dizzy just by seeing her take notes. Bell rang and they both went to the place where the buses get's the students. Beth saw a guy with a motorcycle and waited for someone. Then the goth looking girl from the bathroom came and got on the motorcycle with the guy. Jared started to talk about her. How she's a little crazy yet Jared and his friends helps her. Terri had a beef with her because Terri tattled on her once. Then Jared started talking how Terri really, but Beth didn't get mad or anything because Beth knows how Terri is.

Aunt Camille came to pick up Terri and Beth. Terri told Beth "Hands off Jared". They got home and Beth got an email from Marcie about their first days at school. Marcie told her how horrible it is for both Teddy and her and how they both miss her. Beth really wanted to come back home. Then suddenly Terri came inside the room uninvited and started blabbering about Jared. She said "What's going on between you and Jared?! People told you guys were sitting together at lunch today?!". Terri was really, because she thinks she got dips on Jared.

Well those are the last pages I read. I'll let you guys know more later.

  11. "Eragon"

Eragon's dragon is grown alot bigger and now is saying more than words, but full sentences. Her name is Saphira and she said she had been waiting to hear Eragon's thoughts for a thousand years. The Dragon egg only hatches when it senses its rider meaning that Saphira had been in that egg for a thousand years. Soon Eragon had met with Brom because he wanted to know more about the Dragon riders and their origin.Brom was the only person who knew more about the Dragon riders. Brom told him they were here as long as all the people in Alagaesia were. Brom didn't know that Eragon had a dragon also a Dragon rider to be. Eragon's only hope of learning the ways of the dragon rider was though Brom.

  13. Looking for Alaska, pg. 76-90
Miles and Alaska spend some time together during Thanksgiving since they're the only ones who stayed on campus for Thanksgiving break. They talked and talked and laughed and got to know each other. It seemed as if Miles was pretty thrilled about that, of course, trying to contain it in himself, while Alaska seemed as normal as usual. To me, it was interesting to read because of such chemistry they had together. It was like a best friendship that wouldn't stay that way for long. I didn't really feel anything much in particular, but it was just interesting and had significance to it because it's Alaska and Miles. Together. Alone. For the first time. I guess it was something that can help them grow as friends and Miles to figure out his feelings as well.

".. If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane." - Miles

    Thought i'd share that, lol.

  14. "True Believer" By Virginia Euwer Wolff

In pages 76-90, La Vaughn begins to go through more dilemma with Jody and her mom. La Vaughn experiences her first kiss with Jody; however, he ends up laughing at her after the whole ordeal. La Vaughn is embarrassed and she has no one to talk to about it. Another one of La Vaughn's dilemma is that she realizes that her mom has been dressing differently whenever she goes out. La Vaughn then realizes that her mom has a new boyfriend. La Vaughn doesn't know if she likes the idea of her mom having a new boyfriend because La Vaughn likes the idea of being home alone more often. However, at the same time, it's jeopardizing her relationship with her mom. I am able to sympathize with whatever La Vaughn is going through right now because I've had to go through a similar situation with my parent as well. Going through the same situation, I have felt anger and disappointment with what has happened. I as well did not have anyone to tell my problems to; however, I realized that the closest people to tell are your friends because you know that they're always there to help you. However, La Vaughn doesn't have anyone to tell her problems so it's upsetting that her friends aren't there to at least ask how her life has been going and see if there is a problem going on.

  15. "WANTED"

Just like Alice, having no where no go is just one of the things i dislike when I'm in need of a place. I dislike the fact that even your own parents believed other people instead of their own child. I mean come on, i think parents should know their child better to know what they're capable of doing. It pisses me off when parents are like that; it makes me want to just run away. I would be so lost though because i hate being alone. I grew up having family and friends by my side, and having no on to talk to is just...lonesome. What can you do right? It is better off to be alone than to be with someone who might just slow you down, and i don't like waiting. I would do anything to live off without them; i would be desperate to do so. I would steal, lower my pride or even talk to strangers just to fit in with the crowd-for the sake of living.

  16. "The House on Mango Street"

In pages 76 to she talk's about how this man saved money to bring a lady and a kid to where he lives. the women's name was Mamacita. she talks about how she doesn't want to go out side because she cant speak any English. I think that people shouldn't be scared to talk English because everybody cant really speak English. So, everybody shouldn't be doubted about how they cant speak English.
This book is a good book to read. I think other people would like it to because its about people being poor. they would understand how it was back in the old days and how people of different race had it bad.people shouldn't critize others on how they can't speak English.

  17. "Red Kayak"

Brady feels that his weight was lifted right off his shoulder, but its not. He still feels the bad feeling he gets and pulse he getting a bit paranoid after he threw the drill. Right now I still think he has guilt for not telling the truth and it just seems to just eat him up inside. Pulse new problems are arising for his family so it kind of make him second guess his decisions he made so far. A couple days later he goes out to movie with Carl and see J.T, along the way. He doesn`t look so good maybe its, because his dad`s needs a kidney or about the kayak incident. I could only image how Digger looks too. Then Brady finally knew what was the right thing to do from his dad. I just think he should of figure out that the right thing to do is not a easy thing to do and that matters is that you know that you did the right thing. So after that he feels ten time better than before and was ready to do something.

  18. "Dead is so Last Year" Pgs. 75-90
Continuing from last pages, Daisy runs into her Dad. They don't actually meet and talk. She actually just catches a glimpse of him in the alley and he runs off. Daisy's dad has been gone for 6 years and suddenly shows up out of nowhere. Luckily her mom wasn't there and was still at a business trip at Italy. What's even weirder is that they Daisy spots him again running into a bush near Natilie's grandmothers house.

I'm starting to think this is a pretty good book. Its kind of getting more mysterious kind of. Like how the dad showed up and ran into the bush near the Greenhouse. It even talked Nicholas's dad running into a food court eating all the candy bars and running out. Its like they were cloned by Natilie's grandmother because they weren't responsive. This is a pretty good story so far and i can't wait to find out what happens on the next pages.

  20. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
    Pg 76-90
In the next pages of the story which is Chapter 8, Brian is sleeping in the night when he smells something weird and funny. He hears slithering and a brushing sound near his feet and kicked it so hard and threw his hatchet to the sound. Brian screamed because he felt a hundred needles driven to his leg. The sound moved away. He felt the calf of his leg where he felt 8 quills, so he knew it was a porcupine that attacked him. It felt like it were a hundred needles, but there were only 8. He took them out one by one and felt pain. He went to sleep again, but this time it was a light and cautious sleep. The morning came and woke up he was hungry and ate more berries. He thought and dreamed of the food back home and was hungry. He found the hatchet he threw and saw a small chip where it hit the rocks and made sparks.

The thought of that, he knew he can make fire. Fire was the key to it. He found the rock that was hit with the hatchet. It was a black stone, he also found granite and sandstone but the larger pieces of darker made the huge sparks. He struck the rock his hatchet and made several sparks that flew around him. He gathered up grass and twigs swung the hatchet but it did not work. He needed something for finer that would easily catch the fire. He took out his 20 dollar bill and tried it but it didn’t work. He tried dried wood from the birches peeling off like paper. He swung his hatchet and the sparks ignited or lighted the wood but died. He thought of the elements on how to make fire. He had fuel, ignition and oxygen. Then he thought of blowing it. There it came, a fire bursted out. He was happy like it was his friend. He needed more wood and gathered some more.

  21. “Clean by Amy Reed.” In next few pages, it talks about a drug & alcohol history questionnaire. Everyone would have to tell their side of the story about what happened that caused you to be in this situation.
This is the best part I like about this book when it comes to questionnaire. For me, I think that it’s a good thing that the counselors are making them write about it. Because for some they wouldn’t admit the fact that it was their choice in the first place.
Anyways, I have already told about Jason in the beginning. As for the rest, some didn’t have a choice. Like Olivia, her mother didn’t want to have a fat kid. Due to them being so wealthy, her mother when to her doctor and got prescriptions for diet pill. When Olivia’s mother gave her it, she automatically felt as if she did something bad. She had no idea what it was until she notice her losing weight. At the same time, she felt like nothing can stop her. All because she made her mother proud that she doesn’t have a fat daughter anymore.
Honestly, I got super pissed off. Olivia’s mother has no heart for her daughter. I mean what’s wrong with her. Olivia hasn’t done anything wrong but being a healthy little girl. It’s good to have some weight on because that represents how much food they have.
