Posting #6

Post your readings on pages 61-75 here. I'd like to hear more about How You Feel about the events in the book rather than just hearing about the summary of the book. Dig deep guys but make sure to use appropriate words to express what you truly feel about the book so far. Give examples so I'll know what you are referring to. Blog away!

  1. (True Believer By: Virginia Euwer Wolff)
From pages 61-75, La Vaughn begins to let her emotions get to her. After meeting her new classmate Patrick in Biology, he starts acting different when he's around her. He always wants to talk to La Vaughn, but at the same time, La Vaughn tries to avoid his approaches. There is a school dance coming up and La Vaughn really wants Jody to ask her to the dance. However, she's worried about all the other girls and other friends that Jody has and worries that he'll ask someone else. While doing her Biology assignment, Patrick whispers over to her and asks her to go to the dance with him. La Vaughn hesitates and tells him that she thinks she's already going with somebody else even though she knows that Jody hasn't asked her yet, she still hopes that he'll ask her. I could sympathize with La Vaughn because I know that it's hard to like somebody, but you know that it's impossible for that other person to like you too.

It is La Vaughn's payday from the Children's Hospital and she decides that she wants to buy something from her local thrift store. She sees a very beautiful dress and decides that she'll use it for her dance. She comes home and sees Jody coming home as well. Her hopes are broken when Jody asks her to go with him to the swimming pool instead of the dance. He wants her to watch him and help him train.
Overall, the story is going by really smooth. I could relate to La Vaughn in so much ways. Some ways are that I have to work to pay for my stuff and at the same time I have to save money for college as well. I know how it feels to have to work at such a young age and always being reminded to finish school and to get good grades. It's also easy to sympathize with La Vaughn because she's just like all the other young teenagers who struggle for school, family, friends, and that special someone. So far, the book is good because we're pretty similar when it comes to our situations.

  2. "WANTED"

When Alice got inside the mall, she became paranoid about everything, and everyone. Alice went into a store, and looked for clothes, shoes, new outfit, and everything she needed. She had to steal those things and as an innocent teenager, stealing is something extraordinary to do. I feel sorry for her because she had to steal to get new things just to disguise herself. As Alice took all the things she needed, she then ran as fast as she could. A truck then backed up on her way, and she had no other choice but to slide into the bed of the truck. The truck then drove off right after, with Alice laying down on the bed of the truck. I'm scared for Alice because she doesn't know where the truck is heading, neither does she know where to go. The truck kept driving and making turns, until it stopped and Alice decided to slide out of the truck. It was strange how the driver waved at her when Alice got off the truck. Alice then walked for awhile and saw this school where she decided to go to change out of her clothes. It is scary how she doesn't really know anybody, and acts as if she does just to blend in. Changing out of her clothes was a good idea because she did blend in and looked like any other teenager. I feel bad about that kid who owned the bag that Alice stole, i mean Alice was so low to steal a kid's bag just so she can have one. I would be guilty and still do it though because like Alice, i had no any other choice. When Alice took the bag, she then ran out of the school, and out of the street as fast as she could.

  3. Looking For Alaska, page 61-75
These pages start off with the triple date that Alaska had planned out. And as Miles met Alaska's boyfriend for the first time, I couldn't help but feel bad for him. Here he is now shaking hands with the guy Alaska claims to love, who very well exists. So as the dates watch a basketball game, Miles doesn't really get to know his date, Lara, very well. Then he gets a concussion from getting hit by the ball while watching the game and when he gets up from staying down for a while, he ends up vomiting all over Lara. Man, that must be humiliating. I feel even more bad for him. So that same night, the Colonel's date is of course, his girlfriend. His mean, uptight and aggressive girlfriend. They get into this huge argument with Sara saying some cruel stuff to the Colonel and accusing him of having a thing for Alaska, which isn't true. But Sara broke it off anyway. And that night, after Miles' long sleep from his concussion, the Colonel expresses how he feels about the break up. How he's actually sad. And that made me feel pretty sad for him too. As the Colonel even said, he thinks they deserve each other because they're both bad to each other, that he really cares about her and loves her. He'll miss having someone to argue with. And i guess, to me, there's something sentimental about that. Sure, a relationship full of arguing must be tiring. But clearly, there's a certain type of bond there if you can stick with a person who makes you mad 70 percent of the time. I'm sure there's something despite all the madness that makes them want to stick around. And i think, that's what the Colonel will miss.

Then Miles talks about when they got in trouble from the Eagle that one day and took them to a school jury. Miles, Takumi, the Colonel and Alaska got in trouble for smoking out in the woods. Although, they all had a whip of cigarette, only the Colonel and Alaska took the blame and said that Miles and Takumi were only there as company. Miles used to think that was so unnecessary, because he had the least to lose than all of them, that he could've taken the blame and it would've been okay, his first warning. But through the next pages, he learns the reason why they did that. They took the fall for him to show him how it's done, so he would know what to do if ever that time came. And i think that's a good example of real friendship. Friends got each others' back. I thought that was pretty rich, and it made me understand why they did that as well.

Towards page 75, Alaska finds out that Miles heard that she was the one who ratted out Kevin's two friends, Paul and Marya. She admitted it was true and that she was sorry. She had gotten in trouble that day, and was interrogated by the Eagle, and made a deal with her that if she told him anything she knew, he'd let her go. So she told him about Paul and Marya. Miles thought that it is clearly her fault, and that Alaska brought that onto herself because she didn't have to rat them out. It's not like the Eagle will actually kick her out. And what Miles thinks is pretty true, which is why Alaska's situation about feeling bad and all, makes you feel bad as well. I mean, she felt like she had to do it so she did, but it turned up a whole lot of consequences for her to deal with. If only she didn't do it. But i think that Alaska's handling it well, even if the guilt may possibly drown her out. At the same time, i guess she was honest. But i agree that it'd been better if she didn't say anything at all.

  4. "The House on Mango Street"

I think that its a great book so far. I like how she talks about how crazy peoples lives are around her neighbor hood. its like shes talking about the real world. how people steal and etc. she talks about this man Geraldo who doesn't have a last name. but he works at a restaurant.
she talks about this lady who still acts like a kid who hasn't grown up from her child hood and who acts like shes one of them but really isn't.how crazy this lady is she kick out a pregnant women just for having a duck in her apartment.her daughter Ruthie loves candy but she has to eat soft candy because her teeth hurts when she eats hard candy.when Esparanza takes her to go shopping she looks around like a crazy animal.
The book is good for people to read people it kinda talks about racism. how people should respect on anther. they should show love to each other because nobody is perfect. it makes you feel like you want to change.

  5. "The Giver" Pg. 61-75

On this part of the book, it is a continuation from the last blog. This is a continuation of when Jonas was called up last to get his job in the community. The announcer just explains to the audience why he was chosen, and how it was an "Honor". Jonas, of course was surprised.

The announcer hands Jonas a folder. In the folder it contains instructions and rules on what to do on the day of their training. When Jonas saw it before he went to bed that night, he was really caught off guard. He didn't know what to say or think about what his training will be. Mostly everything in the folder was against the rules in the community, which explains why he didn't know what to think. After viewing the folder, Jonas questioned himself. He really wanted to know what kind of training he will be doing. He was very curious, but then scared. He was scared because one of the the instructions, was that he couldn't apply or ask for any medicine for any pain or injury. He wanted to know why there will be pain in his training. He was curious because one of the instructions was that he was allowed to be rude and lie to other people in the community. In my opinion, I kind of feel excited and curious myself. I'm excited because through out the beginning of the book, Jonas explained and talked about what happens if you break one of the rules. He really didn't really have to explain all the rules in the community. Just the explanation of his reaction towards each other in the community, talks about what the rules are and how they apply to everybody. Words like rude, unfair, poverty, opposite, hate, or lie exist in their community. It's very interesting reading about a place that doesn't exist, but if it did than everything would be dull and sort of unusual.

If I compared everything in our world to this book, there would be a lot of differences. Pain is not very common in Jonas' community. The only pain that they would actually feel is falling off their bicycles, or a scrap on the knee and that's about it. In our world, there is different kind of ways to feel pain. The other difference in their world is, that sickness exists in our world and not in theirs. Probably the only things that make our worlds the same is some of the rules, they have families or in Jonas' community "Family Units",jobs and they also have school. In the book. But in our world we have schools, it's just that we have a choice to stay in school and move on to adult high school called college. The biggest thing that makes our worlds very different, is that we have choices and they don't. They do what their told and we're the same, but we have a choice on whether we should really make any kind of decision.

I really like this book, and I suggest other students or teachers to read it too.

  6. The Outsiders
In pages 61 – 75, Ponyboy and Johnny find Dally, who gives them money and a loaded gun and tells them to hide in an abandoned church. They stay there for a few days, during which time Ponyboy reads Gone with the Wind to Johnny and recites the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. When Dally comes to get them, he reveals that the fights between the rival groups have exploded in intensity since Bob's death. Johnny decides to turn himself in, but the boys then notice that the church has caught on fire and several children are trapped inside. When Johnny and Ponyboy rush to rescue them, burning timber falls on Johnny, breaking his back.
Dally rescues Johnny. Ponyboy is relatively unscathed and spends a short time in the hospital. When his brothers arrive to see him, Darry breaks down and cries. Ponyboy then realizes that Darry cares about him, and is only hard on Ponyboy because he wants him to have a good future.
I find the book getting alittle more interesting, because as I read on more. It showed how thw characters change alittle, reveal their past alittle and mature up.
Like for example Johnny used to be this quiet, shy and low self-esteem teenager. Now he’s more brave and active alittle as before. This book shows me on how friendship and family is important.

  7. Lie Pg. 61-75

This part is where Sean committed suicide. Skylar was the first to see him hanging from the tree. She was so shocked because she didn't think that he was going to commit suicide. It was sad because while I was reading the book, before Sean committed suicide, he sounded like he wanted to tell the truth, but didn't know what to do. Just reading it I imagined how heartbreaking that was. After Skylar found Sean hanging from the tree they use to hang out at, Sean's father walks out and starts screaming. He tries to pull Sean down but couldn't. Skylar's father who was an EMT came and cut the rope and tried to calm him down. Skylar was so shocked she didn't know what to do because she was just talking to Sean the other night. The ambulance came and took Sean away. Skylar's father just let Mr. Mayer let out his pain & anger. The whole neighborhood came over to see what was happening. Everybody was shocked as well.
All I have to say is that this part is sad because this is the second time that Skylar finds or is near a person that just perished. Skylar and Sean has been friends since they were still in diapers so she was really hurt.

  8. In the next pages 61-75 of Clean by Amy Reed, it is group meeting. In-group meeting, they would talk about how they are making progress. Anyways, the person, who everyone are noticing is OLIVIA. She is always by herself everywhere and that she’s not eating. As for her partner, Kelly, she is freaking out. Due to the fact that Olivia is constantly moving things back and forth making sure things are perfect.
Shirley, the counselor, thinks that there is something much deeper because Olivia had just stopped taking the pills several days ago. Anyways, Shirley thinks that she is trying to control everything around her. When all she wants is to do her homework but that’s just an excuse to cover it up until Shirley put some sense into her. She told her that there are more important things than grades. Also how if she doesn’t get help now, Olivia will die. This is not a joke. All she is telling to tell everyone is to care about someone beside themselves for once in their life.
Later on that day, they had medication hours. Let’s just say it is like meditating, but they have to lie on the floor imagining a clam and relax place. Anyways, Kelly was just wondering how in the heck would this help. Instead of meditating, she thought to herself on how many guys in the room had a boner. Due to the fact that the instructor was telling think to take a deep breath in and out.
Once the instructor told them to think of a relax place, Kelly couldn’t think of anything.

I think it's dramatic and funny. I really like to read the next novel of this book.

  9. "The Hatchet" pg 61-75

On the next pages of Hatchet the story gets more interesting as the climax happens and plots. I think the story is really good because it explains a story of survival, wisdom and courage. Brian has suffered from the crash in the woods and has little to eat. He has found some berries in the bushes nearby. He has made a home or shelter from trees and leaves nearby the base of the rock of the lake. He also has successfully made a fire with his own hatchet and some material. He learned last night that when he threw the hatchet to the attacking porcupine that stuck his leg with a quill he threw the hatchet to the rocks and saw the sparks. The porcupine ate all the turtle eggs that Brian found and buried.

Brian was there for weeks nearly a month. He spent his time making more for weapons, tools and search of food and firewood. He also made the shelter upgrade from the porcupine attack and more material. He also successfully made a fish spear and made his first catch when he learned to aim lower in the water. He made a celebration and a feast by cooking the fish in the fire with his spear stuck like a fork. He was really happy that at first it was frustrating then always tried harder and learned. He also made more weapons to catch the fool birds and other animals in the woods. There were also some predators their like bears, skunks and coyotes he encountered. The story is really great and we will find out what happens to him in the story.

  10. In pages 61-75 of The Great Gatsby, Nick goes out lunch with Mr. Gatsby. Their lunch turned out to be quite interesting. Mr. Gatsby tells Nick about his past and how he became rich. He claims he was educated at Oxford College since it was a tradition in his family. He was related to rich and powerful men who are now dead. Nick didn’t believe him at first until he noticed that he was being completely serious. I think he’s lying. Jordan Baker did not believe Gatsby either when he told her his story. The book is still interesting but I do not like it as much as I thought I would. There are too many pointless things being said. In pages 61-63, Nick began to talk about all the people who he had seen at Gatsby’s “Palace.” He mentions what felt like more than 50 different names of people who had been there and what they do and how they act. It was frustrating reading all those different names while trying to remember other characters names that are more important. I’m sure I’ll never see those names again in the book. It makes sense because it helps us understand Jay Gatsby’s personality. When they were eating at the restaurant, Nick saw Tom Buchanan on the street. Nick went up to him and introduced Gatsby to him. Nick began to catch up with Tom and when turned around, Gatsby was gone. It was weird how he left since Gatsby allows complete strangers to his home. In the last pages, we go back in time. It talks about Daisy and how she and Tom got married.

  11. “ Envy by Gregg Olsen” pg. 61-75

Okay here we go again. This part is just how this reporter came and started asking about what really happen to Katelyn so she can make a story about it and sell it. All of the girls, Katelyn, starla, the twins, and beth where part of a bus accident that happen in port gamble 10 years back when they where about 4-6 years old that’s why. The bus lost its brake and it fell off the bridge into the ocean and it seems that the girls pretty much made it except for 4 other girls. The reporter thinks that maybe Katelyn’s death connects to the port gamble accident way back.
The twins put together what they got and it didn’t connect for some reason. Taylor suggested that the words she heard maybe forms some other words and it was maybe clues for them to use. So they took the scrabble game that their parents think they use it for games but it was actually for them to find out other words.

The book is very interesting and all. I like how there’s suspense in there and mystery things cause that gets me very curious which leads me to reading more of the book till I end up finishing it then I find it lame in the end. HAHA! The book though is pretty nice as for me.

  12. The Red Kayak

So in the next few pages I feel that Brady is just trying to get away from all the pressure he in right now. That`s why he going to his auntie`s place for the summer to think things over. He enjoying the time he has to breath, but even though he away from everything he`s still a bit out of it. Then as he stays at his auntie`s house he learns a bit more about his sister Abby, who died when she was born. He feels like got something dear to him when his auntie gave him a picture of his sister. When Brady gets back home he wonders did anything change since he left. He greeted by his family, who miss him so and has a big dinner, because he back. Man...the next part I didn`t think he would do it, he throws the drill in the water. Yeah, he thinks he`s saving his friends and family, but there`s also something else that he doing. I was mad that Brady listened to his friends and I think he should have gone to the police since the beginning than letting it drag this far as it did.

  14. The next pages to "The Girl Death Left Behind" seems interesting. Terri knocked on her door and wanted to invite her to a party at LuAnne's. At first Beth didn't want to go because she was still depressed. Terri and Beth had a little argument, but suddenly Beth agreed to go to the party. So they went to the part and she didn't want to be with the crowd. She went to the tree a little far away from the party.

There a guy came to her and said her name. He said "Hey I'm Jared Harrison". Beth asked him how he knew her name. He said Terri told a lot of people about her. There Beth and Jared talked about their life. They seem to get a long. Jared told her "Come to school Monday". When she got home Terri and Beth talked about the party. Terri brought up Jared's name and said she's going to hook up with Jared.

Later Monday came and Terri already abandoned her. She didn't know where to go so she came to class late. At lunch she was by her self. Then Jared came and asked "need some company?". They both talked and looked at each others schedules. They have algebra together at 6th period. After they talked, Jared left and Beth had more confidence to actually go to the class. She felt a little better.

I'll let you guys know more about the story.

  15. "Dead is so Last Year" by Marlene Perez

Continuing from the last pages I left off. Daisy tried asking Nicholas about what was going on last night, when her and her sister was cornered by the werewolves. They talked about it and it seemed like something really bad was wrong. They were thinking that it was some outside pack of wolves and it would be really dangerous for Nightshade.

In my opinion, this is a good book. It's actually really interesting to read. At first I thought this story was a regular one, but it gave some hints of werewolves and vampires and magical powers. At first I thought it was just trying to confuse me, but it actually is a magical thing book. When I read through it and it talks about the werewolves and vampires, i think its kind of like a twilight thing. Its kind of weird that ever since twilight, vampire and werewolf movies and stories started getting popular. But that's basically what i think about the book so far.

  16. "Hate List" By: Jennifer Brown
    Continue ..

In the part of the book , have a getting mix emotions . In this part of the book one even happened that might throw most people off guard . It is the first day of school and Valerie goes into her first class . She sits on her chair , curls up and waits . Out of no where two students (Kelsey & Meghan) stands up while the teacher is taking attendance . The teacher (Mrs. Tennille) asked her why isn't her in her sit . The students reply with it is Ginny ! Ginny was one of the students who have got injured from the shooting and she had to get plastic surgery done . Ginny stands up wimping with tears yells "IT'S HER, WHY DID THEY LET HER BACK INTO SCHOOL!" Ginny storms out of the room . Everyone starts yelling and poor Valerie is just sitting in her sit trying to hold in the tears .

This is really got me feeling different ways . Yes , I feel bad for Ginny . She had to go through a lot because of the incident that happen , but even Valerie . I felt bad for all of them . They had gone through it together . Yes , maybe Valerie wrote names in the hate list . Yes , maybe she talked about hateful things , but she would have never killed anyone . She never wanted the shooting to happen . She even stopped it . People sometimes need to see beyond the situation and look pass it and really see deeper into it . All of lessons can be learned .

    Until next time : )

  17. Jumper

Davy jumped back to the chemicals banks and he grabbed a flash light he saw so the bills in wrapped in paper bands that said 5,000, he took 20 of them and jumped back to where he stays and then the next day he went to the store and was looking for bigger bags the clerk said to move and get out if he wasn't going to buy anything, then he yelled back just ring it up as he pulled out his bills the clerk was like I'm sorry there are just so many shoplifters your age nowadays. so after he purchased the bags he jumped back home he felt so guilty and anxious. He started putting blankets up in the windows covering them just in case someone peeks. So when it was dark he jumped back in the bank again this time the lights were off and he forgot where he put the flashlight. he was like what if my dads fingerprints were there, then they would ask him where he was then he would say I've been in Ohio, but i just don't know where my son is. It's like he was having a anxiety attack. He searched all the carts for the flashlight and at last he found it He quickly jumped back after that.

  18. "Eragon"

So ever since Eragon's dragon came of out its egg strange things have been happening in his head. Some how He and his dragon seem to be sharing thoughts and emotions. At night when the dragon is out in the forest and Eragon is at home they can communicate with each other, buts its not conversations it was feelings they were sharing with each other. Later on when Eragon went to Carnvhall with his uncle Garrow, he heard a faint call in his head that said "Eragon". What started out as emotions now had become words with Eragon and the dragon. All this time he thought of the dragon as and animal, now he thought of them as companions.

Every time I open up this book things get even more interesting. I'm starting to want to live in a mystical world like this one. Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, Fairies, Sorcery, vast landscapes...etc are the things i'd wish to have in this world. I find it amazing how the author thought of such a beautiful world that makes a reader want to live in. I'll be the happiest man on earth if i could go into the world through the book.

PEOPLE SUCH AS PERCY JACKSON, ANNABETH, THHE STOLL BROTHERS, AND ETC. THIS PAGES WERE THE MOST UN INTERSTING PAGES IN THE BOOK. WELL NOT REALLY, I ALSO KINDA GOT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK. SOME OF THE INTERVIEWS WERE INTERESTING I GUESS.
