It's exciting to open a new book and ride the adventure of reading.
The beginning of the book is quite emotional but it propels the whole story to a new heights.
We'd like to hear what you think about the big event in the beginning of the book.
If you were in Katniss's situation, will you take the place of your sister in the Hunger Games? Why?
I think I will take the place of my younger sister if I were in Katniss's situation. I do not have a younger sister but I have an older sistem, whom I love very much. I think that Katniss have a very clear idea that the Hunger Games is very brutal and it even presents the idea that her sister could die if she gets in the Hunger Games. I think that her instinct is justified because she wants to protect the very person that she loves. I maybe in a grave anger by participating in the Hunger Games but at least, the life of my sister is spared.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have a younger sister. If I were in Katniss's situation, I would definitely take my little sister's place in the Hunger Games. I know I would be risking my life. But I've lived longer than my sister, and I'd want to give her a chance at a fulfilling life. I probably would have second thoughts and be super scared of possibly dying, but in the end, I'd do anything to keep my sister safe. I'm quite pleased and thankful for the things I've done so far in my life. I'm happy I've met the people who are in my life right now. I'd want my little sister to have that.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in Katniss's position, i would definitely take my little sister's place in the Hunger Games. Prim's only twelve years old. She's too young to experience the brutality of the Hunger Games. If she enters, there might be a slim chance of her surviving. As an older sibling, I wouldn't want to see my little sister get hurt. That's why i'll risk my life to save her.
ReplyDeleteThe way Katniss took Primrose's spot in the Hunger Games was honorable. I, myself, am the youngest child in my family. I don't know the kind of feelings Katniss holds toward Prim, so I can't say that I would do the same. I don't personally know how it feels to care for someone so much to sacrifice my life for theirs. I have older siblings, but I can't say I would take their place if we were in that situation. They're older, therefore have lived longer, more fulfilling lives. I still have my whole life ahead of me to experience things they already have been through. I doubt they would let me take their place either, as they would feel the same way. So I have to say no, I would not do the same.
ReplyDeleteUnlike Julianna, I don't have a younger sister. But if I did, I, too, would take her spot in the Hunger Games. I would do anything in my power, to keep my sister safe. I would want her to enjoy the life that she has right now, and not have anything to worry about. So, yes, I would take her spot.
ReplyDeleteIf i was in Katniss situation I would not take Prims place in the Hunger Games. The reason why is because if I take her place she wouldn't learn how to survive in Panama. Its better for her to learn and know what to do. If she's grown up and alone she cant rely on me. She has to be able to survive on her own. Thats what i will do if I was in Katniss situation.
ReplyDeleteYes, because she still young to be in the hunger game. And she will be the easy target. And they would kill her first cause she is the youngest and the easiest target. She doesn't even know how to kill. And thats why i would take Katniss situation.
ReplyDeleteit would be really sad if her little sister were to go.she is to young to go off and fight.it would be good if katniss were too her little sister place in this fight because she is much stronger then the little on.that like having your 5 year old brother/sister do stuff the can not do
ReplyDeleteIf I were in Katniss’s situation, I would take my little sister’s place. The reason I would take her place is because she is too young to fight for survival. She is also way too young too die. I would rather risk my own life than watch my sister suffer or die. I understand how Katniss feels because I also have a little sister.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in Katniss's situation of course I will take my sister place in the Hunger Games, I love my sister too much. My sister is very smart girl but I don't think she's a type of a girl that likes physical sports. My sister's and my family means every thing to me, I will do every thing for them. I will sacrifice my life just for them to be safe.
ReplyDeleteIf i were in Katniss's situation , i would not do the same thing, because i am the youngest girl in our family. And i love my self and i'm too young to do things like that aha. But if I do have a younger sister, of course i would take my little sister's place, She's to young to experience whats going to happen. i wouldn't stand if a love one was being abused.

ReplyDeleteHaving to allow children at a very young age to go off like that to fight is very intense. That's similar to sending them to war! I would most definitely take my little sister's place though. Why? Well, because by being the older sibling it's my responsibility to take care of my family especially of my younger siblings. She doesn't exactly know what it's like to be my age and she wouldn't ever know if she goes to the hunger games. It isn't fair that she hasn't experienced what it feels like to be my age and i truly believe in "family will always come first".
ReplyDeleteI probably would take her place in the games if I knew it was this dangerous. I would do anything just for my little sister to be safe. The sister got chosen , and she didn't want to do the games but she is forced into doing it. And now its good a idea for Katniss to take the little sister's spot in the games
ReplyDeleteIf i were in Katniss's situation, I would have taken Prim's place without even needing to think about it. I have a little sister as well, so I would probably know how it feels to be in her position. Even if it may seem like I don't really get along with her, I would still put my life before hers.
ReplyDeleteIf I was her then yes I would have done the same thing, she's my little sister and I wanna protect her. She's too young to going into life or death situations. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if she died and I didn't do anything to stop it.
ReplyDeleteIf I was Katniss then I really don't know whether or not I would switch with Prim. If I did then I would save her but if I died in the games then she would die of starvation which would be much worse. In the end I would probably switch though.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that you pointed out that if Katniss's were to die in the Games, there's a chance that Prim could die of starvation. I guess both sides have chances of dying. Pretty grim, huh?
DeleteIf I were Katniss, I would have took Prim's place in the Games. I'm not saying yes because it seems like the most compassionate response, but yes because if I put myself in her situation, I would have done the same thing. If I had a younger sister whom I loved dearly, as much as Katniss loved Prim, I wouldn't hold myself back from rescuing her from any danger. I would probably be scared out of wits, though.
ReplyDeleteI think that if I was Katniss, I would have taken Prim's place in the Games. I would have taken her place because I have a younger sister as well. If I were to let my sister go throught the "torture" of the Games I would feel so guilty, because I am her older sister. I am supposed to watch out for her. Besides Katniss already had some of the basic hunting/survival skills. Whereas Prim was still very young and did not know how to hunt. Its only resonable that Katniss should take her place.
ReplyDeleteI believe that what katniss did was heroic . i would have done the same thing. i would take my little sisters place just to save her life. i wouldn't want anything bad happen to my little sister and I'd everything to save her even though sacrificing my life. prim is so young to be having all the torture and even death . i have a little sister of my own and i don't want anything bad happen to her.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, if I were in Katniss's situation, I would volunteer as tribute as well. Having a younger sister who is special to you and is the only sibling you have be sent to an arena to fight for survival would not create the best feeling in the world. The hardships these sisters went through have created a strong bond between them, thus, they have a strong trust and love between them. Also, being the elder one, it is Katniss's job to take care and watch out for her family since her father is gone.
ReplyDeleteWell if I did have a younger sister and she was in this situation then ofcourse Id take her place. I wouldnt just let her go into battle and die, shed have no chance. It would be my responsibility as an older brother to take her place and make sure shed be okay. But I would also have to make sure shed have food when im gone and hopefully come back alive to support my family. If I die in the games, then my family could possibly die not too long after me.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in katniss's situation,I would volunteer and take the place of my little sister as tribute.I'm not saying yes because it's the right thing to do.I say yes because It's the responsible thing to do.She is way to young to be put in that type of situation.I have a little sister of my own who I love very much and would do anything to protect her from any harm.
ReplyDeleteOf course I would take the place over for my sister. I would be shocked she even got choicen having her odds on her side. Even though my sister and I dont really get along I would Still take her place. Shes to little to be in the games. She wouldnt last a day in it. And as an older brother i would anything for her if she was in danger.
ReplyDeleteYeah I would! Not only to protect her but to also crack some skull in the Hunger Games! It be cool to experience something like that from my point of view. Plus it would be my responsibility to watch over my own flesh and blood.
ReplyDeleteYes I would because she is my sister and I should protect her. Its the responsible thing to do and a young girl should not be in a predicament like that.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any siblings myself, but if having a little sister is anything like having my little cousins around, then I would definitely take their place!!
ReplyDeleteKatniss's determination is admirable to me although it's very troublesome. The driving force that made her decide on being a "tribute" would probably be her passion and love for her family, most especially for Prim. I can't empathize with Katniss, just like what Elayne stated, because I too am the youngest child. However, if I was to be in Katniss's situation, I won't pry life over family. I would be a tribute too...
ReplyDeleteIf I were Katniss, I would take her place because for me, I have a strong family and especially since it’s my younger sister and in the situation that I am in, I would do whatever it takes to protect my family. I couldn’t stand watching a defenseless child in my family die. Even though I have just volunteered to be in a game where I have to fight for my life, I just have to stay strong and win this. I understand why Katniss would do this. She really loved her younger sister so I agree to the choice that has done and I too, salute her.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in her place , I probably would with a doubt . Well speaking I don't really have a sister but after reading it , I find her bravery most admirable . Because it was 1 in million that her sister would get chosen and she was pretty much ready if it were her . But back on topic yeah I would take the place of my younger sibling if I had one . I'd probably try my best to survive just to get back to my family .
