  3. The Outsiders By S.E. Hinton

The book I chose to read is “The outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The book portrays the story of two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs, who are divided by their socioeconomic status. The book takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. The characters so far in the story I have read about are Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, Steve Randle, Two-bit Mathews, Dally & Johnny Cade. Their the Greasers group that rival with the Socs.
In the story Ponyboy, a member of the Greasers gang, is leaving a movie theater when a group of Socs jumps him. His older brothers Darry and Sodapop save him. The next night, Ponyboy and his friends Dally and Johnny meet Cherry Valance and Marcia at a drive-in movie theatre. Then Ponyboy realizes that Cherry is nothing like the Socs he has met before and that's how much I read so far in this story.

  4. Envy by Gregg Olsen is about a twin who has some kind of power that they can see the future or can talk to the dead or something. It started out with this girl name Katelyn Berkley. She was some sort sad already when the book started for no apparent reason. It was Christmas Eve in Port Gamble and she was having dinner with the parents, Sandra and Harper Berkley. Her grandma, Nancy is supposed to be paying for her college fund but the grandma can't anymore and her parents used up all their money for the family's restaurant. Katelyn's mom was looking for her espresso machine cause it was missing for how many days already. Katelyn had the coffee machine and been drinking cause she was somewhat stress with everything plus the college fund adding on to her problem.
Being sad about how the grandma promised to pay for her college fund, Katelyn went up to her room and took a bath. Her mom called out for her and she didn't answer. Sandra got curious and went up her room. She saw the window open and she heard the bathtub faucet running. She opened the bathroom door and she saw her daughter in the bathtub lifeless. She shook her and all, but nothing. She cried her heart out, but as if someone is going to hear her cause nobody was home. Harper went out to get some more logs and Nancy had left home already.
As Sandra was turning off the faucet water holding her daughter in her arms she noticed something in the water. She picked it up and it was the espresso machine. She followed the cord and it was attached to the outlet. The 15 years old girl was dead.

  5. Clean by Amy Reed is about teenagers who are in rehab. In the first few pages, it describes the characters’ personalities and where they came from. For me, I really enjoyed reading this book. Due to the fact that you can somewhat relate it to reality. Such as the stories the characters' shared during group meeting. For example, how most of their parents don't support them in what the did, how they got into rehab and addicted to drugs, how there was a 15 years old girl who was prego, and so on. It was crazy yet exciting. For me, the characters that I enjoyed reading about were Kelly and Jason.
Mostly Jason though, because the reason he got into rehab was the cause of his sister’s brain damage. One day, he decided to be a man and wanted to drink beer. So he had to go to downstairs to grab it, but little did he know he was suppose to be watching his little sister. He forgot that the fence of the baby area was opened. So as he walked downstairs, he didn’t know that his sister was following him until he heard thump, thump, thump and silence. For Jason, the scary part was the silence. From that moment on he was scarred for life, but the only reason why he did that was due to his parents. His dad was so full of himself that he kept making Jason feel like a runt and never appreciated what he did. Unless it was something bad like beating up someone. As for his mom, she was even more scared of her husband that she can’t even stand up for her family.
    And so on.
Until next time... I'll update you on what happens :)

  7. In the first 15 pages of The Great Gatsby, I’ve learned that Gatsby is a wealthy man who lives in a mansion. I’ve read about Tom Buchanan, and how hulkish he is. I believe the story is being told from the perspective of Gatsby’s neighbor, Nick. Nick participated in The Great War. He had a dog once. The setting is in West Egg in the 1920's. In the pages I’ve read, there are about five to six characters. Nick knew Tom from College and Tom’s wife, Daisy, was Nick’s second cousin. Tom was a football star in New Haven.

I’m not really sure if his name is Nick. He hasn’t really introduced himself yet. The book is very descriptive and uses a great amount of imagery. There are so many details that it gets distracting. Nick and the Buchanan’s were having dinner and began talking about Gatsby. I looked book at the pages and his name is definitely Nick, or Nicholas. Miss Baker was also at the Dinner. I have no idea who she is. I’ll probably re-read the pages when I’m not too distracted. I’m not really interested in the book at the moment but I hope I will be as I read more in the future. So far, the book is just introducing the characters into the story. Nothing has really happened yet.

  10. Okay, so I’m reading “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator”. The first couple of pages just gives you a recap on “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. Even though they gave us the recap, it wasn’t very helpful because the recap was talking about the ending of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, an ending in which I don’t remember seeing in the movie. The difference in the movie and the book suggests that maybe the movie cut the book short. The recap basically talked about the last few scenes of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and how Willie Wonka gave the chocolate factory to Charlie. Then the REAL story begins as Charlie goes home to his family to tell them of the big news. Charlie then took everyone back to the glass elevator to return to the chocolate factory. The elevator launched off and they we’re on their way there… or so they thought. They were going tremendously high, and everyone began to panic. When asked why they needed to be so high, Mr. Wonka explained they needed to make a hole in the roof of the factory in order to get in. Wonka also explained that to make a hole in the factory, the elevator has to go at amazing speed. Everyone was frightened as they got further and further away from the ground. Mr. Wonka was focused on a green button that was supposed to stop the elevator. Grandma Josephine couldn’t take it anymore and attacked Mr. Wonka. While he was getting attacked, he screamed for Charlie to press the green button…but it was to late. They were now floating in orbit.

  12. "Dope sick" by Walter Dean Myers is a book about a drug trade that goes bad. The characters in the story talk in a old school gangster tone. The first few pages were amazing. It starts out in a street and this guy is running away from the cops. The cops are looking for him cause he is accused for shooting up a cop and killing him. He runs into this abandon building and heads for the roof.
On his way there he sees light seeping threw the bottom of a door. He barges into the room thinking to find some dope heads shooting up but, instead finds a man sitting on a chair watching television. He holds the gun up to the man's head and demands him to tell him a way to the roof. Unafraid and calm, the man offers him a seat to watch television with him. What happened next blew my mind.

  17. The book I read is "The Girl Death Left Behind". The book is not so exciting like other books, but you know how it's always boring in the beginning til it gets to the middle and there is where the exciting part is usually at. This book is about a girl name Beth who has a freaky, messed up, weird family. They always pick on her which really irritates her and make her really mad.

She has friend named Teddy that she go play basketball with whenever she gets stressed out because of her family. Teddy actually has a crush on Beth's best friend named Marcie.
And she has a cousin name Terri that she really dislike because snotty. Beth doesn't think she'll ever have friends or even a husband because of how she is. Terri is coming over her house for summer.

I'll keep reading this book till something exciting or amazing that comes up and I'll you guys know.

  21. The book I'm reading is called "True Believer" by Virginia Euwer Wolff. It tells the story of 15 year old Verna La Vaughn. The story is about the struggles that she has to go through in school to get better grades but at the same time she has to work to to save money into her account for her college funds. In the beginning of the story, some of the struggles that she has to go through is to continue to keep her head in the game by knowing what her college plans are. In the beginning of the story, her mother sits her down and asks her if her if she still remembers her college plans. La Vaughn's mother then tells her that she has a new job. Because of the mom's new job, the mom can now put more money into La Vaughn's college funds, but because of this, La Vaughn can't go through trouble and that she has to keep up her grades and to stay safe because the mom will be busy and she won't be there to save La Vaughn. La Vaughn then agrees, but her mom reminds her that one of the biggest mistakes that La Vaughn could make that would stop her from her future plans is by having a baby. La Vaughn profusely denies that she will have a baby. However, as time passes, La Vaughn dreams of having a boyfriend or that someone who will become her husband.

After reading the first couple of pages of this story, I realized that a lot of young teenagers who are in La Vaughn's situation will be able to relate. After reading the first few pages, I hope to understand more of her situation and how it relates to others.

  22. My book is "WANTED" by Caroline B. Cooney, and the main character's name is Alice. It starts off with a phone call from her dad. It didn't sound like his dad yet the man from the other line claims to be the dad. He used a different number, that she didn't even recognize it's Caller ID. Then he suddenly told her to leave the house as soon as she can; bringing the disks from his room with her. Her dad told her to go to that place where they get their milkshakes at and meet him there. However, before she even left the house, a man came inside and Alice thought it was his dad. Though she then thought it wasn't him because she thinks he has other intentions. so she hid; she hid under their car to be exact. The man looked for her and the disks everywhere but he couldn't find it. The strange man then went into the computer for awhile and shuts it down, and left the house without harming Alice.

The cop wanted to know where or what she was doing Friday night. Her boyfriend was in jail because of an incident that happened when they were hanging out. The book is like basically about racism. The main characters name is Skylar and her boyfriends name is Jimmy. Jimmy dislikes Hispanic people a lot. So in the beginning, everybody that was with Jimmy that night or knows Jimmy were being questioned because he put a guy in ICU. The saying they had going around was " Everybody knows.
